Kitchen and bathrooms are important places in the house. Here is where we all usually go for refuge. If famished, we head straight to the kitchen. For solitude and relaxation, the bathroom is where we usually stay. It is but essential for us to keep these two places as lavish and as accessible as possible.

Kitchens have to be spacious. It should allow free movements because of the numerous tasks usually done in there. Here is where cooking, preparing, and eating is done. Cabinets and storage places has to be built on the most convenient areas. There should be five of those in the kitchen, to ensure organization around the room. Just make sure that cabinet doors won’t be blocking anything across it when opened. There should be at least two counter surfaces installed to serve as work areas. Provide twenty inches or more space between appliances. Kitchens have to have proper lighting. The whole room should be well illuminated. Ventilation is important too. Have at least one window, if possible.

As for baths, it is recommended that toilets and bathrooms should be separated. If it can’t be done, make sure that the toilet is not visible from the bathroom. It should not be the first thing you are to see when going to the room. All walkways inside the bathroom should at least be thirty inches, and so does the space between fixtures. Use slip-resistant materials for the floor. This is for safety, because bathroom floors are always wet. Also, make sure that there are adequate grab bars in all needed places such as near the toilet seat, tubs, and shower units. Still on safety, check all electrical outlets. None should be installed near a water source.

In building or remodeling your kitchen and bath, think of your own personal needs. Every one of us has our own way of working in the kitchen. So then, make its layout most accommodating for you. If the refrigerator is the first thing you check if inside the kitchen, try placing it nearer the door. If you spend more than half an hour inside the bathroom, make sure that the room is designed well for you to enjoy your bath.
