Be it from the outside or from the inside, windows and doors are meant to be noticed. Windows have a lot to do with a house’s ventilation, light, and temperature. Placing the right windows in the proper places is necessary to achieve the effect that you would like to have for your home. The doors are as important. Your door has to match your house’s style, color, and ambiance. Both could also serve as you house’s highlights.

In selecting windows, you should consider your budget, the house’s style, and of course, security. Windows can be made of wood, steel, vinyl, aluminum, or a combination of these. Wood is usually the most common material used. It is popular because it is not susceptible to cold or condensation. But woods need to be protected well because it will shrink, warp, or swell over time. Vinyl windows are made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) that are resistant to both condensation and heat loss. The only downside is that this type cannot be painted and its color usually fades over time. Steel windows are the best choice. They are more resistant to elements, have low maintenance, and will last for several years. Its just that this material to too expensive they are not commonly used in homes. Aluminum windows are lower-priced compared to the steel type. It is light and is easy to install. Being so, without proper care, it will break easily.

There are two types of doors. The heavily-tight exterior doors and the lighter weight interior doors. In selecting exterior doors, consider security and durability. These doors should be able to maintain indoor climate. It should be strong enough to withhold all kinds of weather and give safety. The main door should be attractive to have a good first impression with guests. For terrace and patio doors, use the ones with glass lites. French doors are good options too.

For the interiors, you can install doors with lighter materials. Folding doors are recommended in places where there is restricted door swing movement. If there is really no room for a swing, then a pocket door can be installed. These are doors attached to the wall and are slid to the sides to open.
